Is Jayson Tatum Overhyped?

During a recent article earlier this week, Bleacher Report’s Grant Hughes called Jayson Tatum one of top five most overrated players in the NBA. Tatum saw the article but didn’t really seem to care about what he had to say about him:

“I saw it. But, good or bad, articles really don’t faze me. Everybody is entitled to their own opinion. My job is to play basketball; their job is to write articles. I’ll stick to my job.” – Jayson Tatum to ESPN’s Chris Forsberg

Hughes did say Tatum could be a franchise player but he believes because Kyrie Irving will be back that Jayson will have to take the back seat and it will be hard for him to showcase what he can really do.

In my opinion, Jayson Tatum is not even close to an overhyped player. During the regular season, he averaged 13.9 ppg and 5 rpg. During the playoffs, he was an absolute star averaging 18.5 ppg, helping the Celtics get to the eastern conference finals. Those are pretty good stat lines for a 20-year kid.

If Jayson Tatum keeps working on his game, he will be one of the best players to ever play in the NBA. He has all the abilities to be a superstar player and if he keeps working out with legends like Kobe Byrant he will be a hall of fame player with multiple rings. But in all reality, it is way too early to say if Tatum is overrated or not. This was only his rookie season.
